Sitting in the shadows of Ely's splendid cathedral tower, the Lamb Hotel dates back to the 15th century and retains its traditional atmosphere as a thriving coaching inn. The narrow old streets of Ely house medieval gateways, timbered houses and a parkland sweeping down to the lovely River Great Ouse, where there are boating and fishing facilities. Historically there is much to see with the fine cathedral, Cromwell's house and the history of local saints such as St Etheldreda. Cambridge is nearby and offers other historic buildings and good shopping. Newmarket, famous for horse racing, is just 12 miles away.
